Well what can be said we lost another great in world of Hip Hop....Mr Magic.
Growing up here on the west coast and not be able to hear Mr Magic's pioneering radio show I have no memories of enjoying his show. However, the name of the legend Mr. Magic did reach me here and he was much respected by us west coast Hip Hoppers.
This sudden lost along with the death of Roc Raida just demonstrates the need to appreciate those pioneers and innovators of Hip Hop that are still with us. So many known and little known people had contributed and built this culture we love so much but receive very little recognition. As evidenced by Afrika Bambaataa not receiving headliner status at The Smokeout Festival.
With the death of Hip Hop on radio presently the passing of John "Mr. Magic" Rivas is time for reflection and mourning of what have lost over the last 18 years as more and more corporations took control of what is or should be called "Hip Hop".
John "Mr Magic" Rivas
Rest In Peace
