This a mix made by Gold Dragon combines Sabar drumming of the Wolof people of Senegal, audio from films, classic funk breaks and Notorious B.I.G. acapellas. This is unique to say the least. I haven't got a chance to check it the whole thing yet but from what I heard on his myspace site it's interesting and funky. In the download you get a list of all the samples used as well as pics of all the samples albums covers. That is something I wished more producers would do.

Dakar, Senegal is the center of African hip hop so I've been told. I'll try to track down some links to African hip hop artists to give ya'll a taste of how the brothers from motherland get down in future posts.

Here's something most DJ's probably thought they would never hear a set by the DJ legend himself, GRANDMASTER FLOWERS. Before Grandmaster Flash there was Flowers. Flash,& Afrika Bambaata along with other Hip Hop's pioneer DJ's credit Flowers as an inspiration for their style. Recorded at a Brooklyn park jam in 1979 this is truly historic. I got this off Supreme Unknown's blog (http://theessentialelements.blogspot.com/). One hour and 11 minutes of history enjoy people.

This is something indeed quirky but it works. A UK producer named Bullion took elements of the classic Beach Boys album "Pet Sounds" and used "ideas" (Not Samples) from J Dilla's production work and created something fresh. Listen for yourself and decide.

Well if you like Bullion's work then you might like this rapper named Starpower. He made his own version of Bullion's pet sounds with him rhyming over the bullion beats and called it "Petting Zoo".

Next Monday(5/19) I got some Rob Swift & 5th Platoon mixes for you. I'm still searching for my (misplaced, AARG!!!) tape of The Beat Junkies Icy Ice mixing on 92.3 the beat back in 1995. I know I got Rhettmatic one too somewhere. When I find them I post them. Enjoy the good music.

lol well as it so happens I haven't listened to it yet But I will this weekend and get back to you. I can't promise you a answer though. Although I'm 36 years old some of the tunes are before my time but I think I probably could track it down for you. As Flowers was known for playing known tunes not obscure ones.
