Sam Cooke. He's definitely in my top 10 as far as singers go. Smooth when he was singing pop hits and standards, Sam could also show his gospel side when singing. He was one of the first singers to move from Gospel to Pop music and paved the way for singers like Aretha Franklin, Otis Redding and James Brown. I always thought if Marvin Gaye was doing his thing in the 50s, he would be the Sam Cooke of back then, and if Sam was coming out in the 70s, he would be the Marvin Gaye of that time. I loved making this mix. Biggups to Marissa Feliciano for creating some dope cover art for this week's mix.
