As far as I know NY never tried to ban breakdancing in streets like the California Legislature did in 1984. Out here in the west Hip Hop has always struggled to survive. Unlike in east coast which for the most part some kind support in the west we had to fight to maintain everything it has achieved. Most will never know the struggles promoters had to find a venue to even have Hip Hop event between 1989 - 1994.
From venue owners refusing to rent their venue to you. To your venues being outright stolen from you a week before the event by rival Rave promoters. Hip Hop survived because many people invested their time and energy to ensure Hip Hop culture flourished.
I'm just saying all you deejays out there forget about keeping it real just show some respect!
I'll end my rant with this: Who has produced more deejays and graff writers that influenced generations then the west coast? Nobody...nuff said!!
