Tribute To De La Vie

For the past year I wanted to complete a special mix for one of my greatest deejay influences...David Tafolla aka DJ De La Vie. To commemorate what would have been his 40th birthday (March 7).

Tragically David was murdered 5 years (Here) I couldn't, however, come up with the right idea to pay tribute. Should it be an all Hip Hop mix? A Latin Freestyle/Hip Hop mix since that was what we played back in day? I couldn't decide on which way to go. Ultimately I got so consumed with finishing Soulful Melodies before March came around I lost all time available to make a mix before today. Since I'm about celebrating his life and not his death I didn't want to post a mix in April, the anniversary of death.

De La Vie wasn't widely known outside the Inland Empire but some of you may know him as Ozomatli's Kanetic Source's deejay. He played a major role in inspiring many deejays around the IE area especially within San Bernardino.

Around the late 80's within every Hip Hop community there were deejays, who skills were far superior to others, who styled heavily influenced and inspired others. Here in San Bernardino De La Vie was one of those deejays.

So with that I will repost this incredible mix of Hip Hop instrumentals upon here. I think since David loved Hip Hop so much this mix will do his memory proud.

Also unfortunately Kanetic's son Noah is in ill health and needs support...(here). If you can help in anyway please reach out to Kanetic and family.

Uk's DJ BobbyCorridor has made one of the best mixes ever. Every Hip Hop head needs to have this in their collection. Bobby Corridor mixes over 600 Hip Hop instrumentals into 90 minutes of pure funkiness. This was released back in summer of 2008 but I'm just now hearing it.I can't believe I wasn't aware of this before now.
